Fred The Very Masonic Fish and Insectoid Black Forest Cake

Let me introduce you to Fred the Siamese Fighting Fish.
He now lives in a Mason jar perched on top of a chest of drawers in my cousin Bonnie's living room.
The last time I saw Fred, he was happily swimming in a gorgeous rectangular glass vase.
The vase broke last week and Fred being the true fighter he is, survived.
There are two reasons for the Mason jar, one, his former home is now in the trash can and two, he was on his way to being Blessed.
Today at the local St Peter's Anglican Church, was 'Blessings of the Animals' Day and Fred was scheduled to appear swishing his gorgeous tail from side to side in his Mason jar, being admired by one and all.
Sadly Bonnie couldn't make it to the Service.
O well, it doesn't really matter, he was admired and blessed by everyone who passed by his jar all day.
Now on to the Reason why we were gathered at the Neighbour - Cousins.
We had (what I like to call) a Spontaneous Combustion Bruncheon.
In our family circle, due to various schedules in which the regular calendar is pitched out the window, (or in some cases, set fire to) Birthdays are celebrated if you can get at least one of the Birthday people to sit down long enough to eat their cake.
In this case, we were lucky. Mark (Bonnie's son) and Wayne (Bonnie's brother) were both available and zoom badda boom, brunch and cake were produced from her kitchen.
Have I told you that Bonnie has a wicked sense of humour?
The Special October Birthday Cake created for the occasion  (you will note the theme) was A Spider and Fly Black Forest Cake with surprise insects tucked into every piece.
I got a ladybug along with several 'flies'. (I figured that out when I couldn't crunch those hard bits of chocolate!)
Mr Bear got a spider ring. Others got various members of the insect kingdom.
A great time was had by all even though Fred didn't make it to the church on time.
(How well it has been truly said, "Time's fun when you are having flies.")
Blessing to those who made it to their Blessing of the Animals Day and bless all those out there with a wicked sense of humour.
Roll On October!
